So you’ve started to look into CBD products. Perhaps you’ve done some preliminary research and it looks promising. Maybe you’ve seen CBD brands cropping up in your city or a few friends swear by it. Either way, we know it can often be a confusing place for beginners, so we’ve written this primer to get you started.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a natural non-intoxicating ingredient extracted from the hemp plant. It helps balance our body’s endocannabinoid system, which is linked to stress, pain and inflammation.

How much CBD is recommended for me?

As a general guide, we suggest 0.5mg of CBD per kg in weight as needed up to a maximum of six times daily. That said, everyone reacts to CBD differently, so you should find the serving size that works best for you.

What format is right for me?

The first thing to know is that CBD is personal. There is no right or wrong way to incorporate CBD – it’s all about what works best for you. To determine your best fit format, understanding your lifestyle and preferences is key.

Outlined below is an overview of a few broad format options, each with their own set of benefits. Having an understanding of this will enable you to choose a product best suited for you.

Sublingual CBD

In this format, CBD is delivered into the bloodstream through the glands under your tongue. There are a variety of products within this category, from CBD oils to lozenges and even sprays.

CBD oils are the most popular format and also one of the simplest. You just measure your serving, drop it under your tongue and hold it there for 30 to 60 seconds. CBD oils have a ‘rapid onset time’ – meaning you will feel the effects quickly, typically within 15 minutes.

Our Felix & Co range of oils combines CBD with a blend of mint, citrus botanicals and terpenes to provide maximum benefit. Available in three strengths – 300mg, 1200mg and 1800mg – they are perfect for beginners and pros alike.

Edible CBD

Edible CBD includes any product that you eat, drink or swallow. In this format, CBD enters the bloodstream after being processed by your digestive system. Edibles typically provide longer-lasting effects with slower onset times, which can be ideal for providing more sustained relief.

For example, muscle pain and inflammation often hangs around for more than a few hours, so the sustained relief of our Felix & Co Recovery Capsules can be a great option. Likewise, our Felix & Co Sleep Softgels are great for those striving to improve sleep quality throughout the night.

And then there are edibles in the more literal sense. Our Chocobien CBD Chocolate Bars are a great self-care treat and our LIFE range of water-soluble CBD is designed to be mixed into any food or beverage you fancy.

Topical CBD

Topical CBD is absorbed by the skin but doesn’t enter the bloodstream. There’s a huge variation in product formats and functional benefits, with products showing promise in everything from acne to joint pain.

Our Felix & Co Body Balm combines CBD with soothing menthol and shea butter to provide targeted relief for body aches and pains.

While it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of CBD products available on the market, if you start your search based on your individual needs and preferences, you should be able to limit the pool to one or two formats, which will make it much easier to find your perfect product.
